TV Appearance for K-12 STEM Education

I was invited by one of my professors, Dr. Sanchez, who runs the Tulane Center for K-12 STEM Education, to make an appearance on TV with her to talk about my work with SWE. This TV appearance was on Fox 8 WVUE NOLA Now, and you can watch the video below!

As a member of the Society of Women Engineers for all four years of college, I’ve participated every semester in GiST (Girls in STEM at Tulane) and BaTS (Boys at Tulane in STEM). SWE runs both a morning activity and the lunch activity and competition for these events, engaging over 100 young students in a fun design challenge!

Now, as the President of our SWE chapter in my senior year, I get to lead this kind of community engagement and plan these events. I’ve pioneered events such as Pi a Prof, a Pi Day fundraising event that raises money for middle school robotics through getting students to pie SWE members and professors. I’ve also organized STEM pep rallies, high school tours of the makerspace with SWE, and more. I absolutely love getting to volunteer and work with STEM engagement for young children, and I plan to continue finding ways to do that after college.
